About
About
Dim is a New York-based Visualist and tattoo artist specializing in highly realistic tattoos. Born in SEOUL, he initially studied sculpture at Tsinghua University in Beijing before pursuing visual communication design at Seoul National University.
His tattoos are not merely images that are “drawn.” Dim begins by constructing a structural foundation, upon which he carefully builds up layers of bone, muscle, and skin to sculpt the image. Rather than simply reproducing a subject, he deconstructs and reconstructs it through his own visual language, creating a new sensory structure that evokes an unseen sense of realism.
This approach extends beyond tattooing. Dim’s visual language—rooted in inscribing sensation and memory onto the body and surface—is translated into other material structures such as print and sculpture. He focuses on the irreversible traces formed only through the intervention of the hand and the resistance of materials, experimenting with sensory structures that resist replication.
In 2020, he completed an internship with the design team at Naver. His work has been exhibited internationally, including at Milan Design Week–SalonSatellite (2018), the 3rd Media User Experience and International Forum, Beijing Design Walk 2018, and the 6th International Media Design Exhibition.
